What to see & do in San Juan del Sur

  • Go sport fishing with Nica Charters or take a boat trip along the nearby coast stopping off for a swim and beach picnic. They also offer surfing trips to the nearby beaches.
  • Visit the nearby beaches of Playa Gigante, Maderas, El Coco and Playa Majagual.

  • Refugio de Vida Silvestre La Flor- La Flor Wildlife Reserve is a reserve south of San Juan del Sur whose main attraction is the turtles that come ashore in their thousands from August to December. The beach is lovely and is an easy walk from Playa El Coco

Traveling to San Juan del Sur

Buses arrive and depart beside the market, two blocks from the beach.

Direct buses to Managua depart regularly.

Buses for Rivas (40 mins away), with connections to Managua and the Costa Rica border, depart every half hour from dawn to sunset.

Two daily buses heading to Rivas via all the northern beaches, depart twice daily.There are fixed rates for taxi trips from San Juan to the nearby beaches such as Maderas.

San Juan del Sur

San Juan del Sur is the most popular beach in Nicaragua .
A wide crescent beach with an abundance of hotels, restaurants and bars make it a popular destination for backpackers, surfers, locals and the resident ex-pats who live in the condos overlooking the bay.

Apart from Xmas, Semana Santa and high season weekends it still retains much of its fishing village ambience.
